I actually bought one of these new back in 1980. Only mine was a complete stripper, the only option was the ugly as a freight train basket handle paint job-it had a baby blue "basket handle" and metallic dark blue paint that lasted about 2 years before it strted to peel off the roof and hood. I didn't have the turbo, I had the lowly 2.3 liter 4 cylinder with 88 stunning horsepower hooked up to a 4 speed manual transmission.
I beat the living snot out of this car for 8 years, put over 100,000 mostly highway miles on it and the only maintenance I ever did to it was change the oil regularly and put on new tires when needed.
That's right, no brake work, no tune ups, no changing anti-freeze, no anything. The only modification was a hacked together killer sound system. I had 4 6x9's in the back package shelf, a subwoofer in the trunk, 2 speakers in the dashboard, 2 more in the doors, a graphic equalizer and a couple of amps under the front seats
Back in 1980.....it was pretty damn loud, I remember being able to vibrate silver dollars off the roof.
I was the worst car and the best car I ever had.

I really want a Futura. Like REALLY want one. No idea why, other than because obscure RWD Ford.

Someone in my neighborhood has a standard Fairmont Coupe painted the same way, minus the basket handle. At first, it was two-tone maroon, and was later repainted to a baby blue and dark blue two tone scheme.
It's still not the ugliest two-tone paint jobs I've ever seen. That displeasure goes to a 944 I saw a while ago.

It was a very good car in the winter due to the light engine in the front and the 2 50 pound bags of flour I would put in the trunk(I was a baker at the time). Back then, I had a 35 mile commute and in the winter I would run studded snow tires. One time when it had snowed quite a bit, I slapped on a set of tire chains.
Worked pretty good except one of the links broke and beat the shit out of the side of my car for 10 miles. Yeah, I could have stopped, but the car was already starting to rust and the paint had already faded and it was on the highway with no safe place to pull off.......so I just let it hammer the side of the car:-)

Watched "Sixteen Candles" today. Molly Ringwalds love interest had a 944 in red, which made me realize that I actually like the body style of the 924/944. This paint job completely destroys that notion.

Eyh.. Hey.. One should never mention Molly Ringwald without posting a picture of her from the breakfast club (I know she was young as shit then, but she was my first huge celeb crush)
And if I'm honest, she looks even better now.
Uhm.. so yeah... porsche? I've always been a fan of the 924 and 944. Just look at it.

the ***icans around houston paint their pickups with a maaco 'winfield fade' with the lighter color on bottom...at first i was like: that poor truck needs a wash, but then they were like, no it's painted like that homes....

Did yours have this killer velour interior? Cuz I could make that work, I would rock the shit out of that. Just add 2 bitches
...Probably would've sold like hotcakes with a tagline like that.

I absolutely detest this. The car is good. The paint is badddddd. What is happening at the back bumper? Did a blind muskrat design this?

Nope, mine had the barebone blue plaid seats and hard brittle vinyl covering everything else. After a couple of years, my dashboard top cracked in so many places I just removed it.

I have to admit, we have a two tone light brown/dark brown 2007 Outback....I must have an affinity for ugly two tone vehicles.

oh that combo exists?!?! if that's the case then well okay, you win

I think he is referring to the Willow Green / Moss Green two tone that was available for 2006 and 2007. I actually like that color combination, and think it suits the Outback quite well.
The Deep Bronze / Harvest Gold two tone that was available in 2008, however, does not look that great.

Yeah, we have the ugliest combo possible on our 2007 Outback...the Deep Bronze / Harvest Gold two tone.
Got a helluva deal on it....bought it on the last day of December back in 2006.
Walked in the dealership 15 minutes before they closed for New Year's Eve and offered 21,500 *cash* for it.
The list was almost 27k. I don't know if our salesman needed the sale or not, but I made it a yes or no situation for them-here's 21,500 in big bills, no trade in-do ya wanna sell me the car or not?
I guess he took the deal to his boss and they tried to dicker over the price. I asked to see the floor manager and asked him the same question I asked his salesguy....here's 21,500 bucks-do we have a deal?
Turns out, money talks and bullshit walks....either that or they wanted to close shop and go drink :-)

What are the odds of that eh? It's not like a write stuff in polish on a regular basis or anything.. Huh...
